D. X. Logan has worked to broaden his perspective to the fullest. He's sought out a wide array of jobs in the pursuit of knowledge. Among his achievements is a BA in Early Childhood Education, completing the entire Appalachian Trail, and jobs from hospital work to corrections. Each new area of life has given him a wider base of experiences to draw from when writing. He's written on many topics and crafted a number of roleplaying games. His strongest passion in writing are his published works of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Interested in a slightly more detailed Biography?D. X. Logan was born in July of 1979 in Trenton, Ohio but spent most of his childhood in Middletown, Ohio. He always displayed an overriding interest in all things creative and the outdoors. By the end of the second grade, he'd finished the novel Golem in the Gears by Piers Anthony. This is attributed to a love of stories and reading imparted by his father. His love of the written word had already developed into a passion that would last the rest of his life. The works of such authors as Issac Asimov, Piers Anthony, Steven Brust, J. R. R. Tolkien and Robert Jordan all fueled his imagination. Time tested classics and the work of new authors all feed an appetite for stories and an active imagination.
In High School, D. X. Logan became involved in both roleplaying games and theater, finding they were an outlet to more deeply understand character mindsets. The roleplaying games in particular offered practice at fleshing out the history of characters and worlds. Understanding how a character's past affected their present actions became a valuable tool in a growing arsenal of writing tools.
In 1997, he achieved Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. Shortly after he became an assistant Scoutmaster and merit badge instructor. Later that same year, he began attending Miami University, majoring in Early Childhood Education with a focus in family social work. Despite graduating with a Bachelor degree, he did not move into the teaching field. Instead, he decided to further explore the world around him. He's taken the time to learn the ins and outs of different jobs, each of which offers insights and inspiration for the development of his stories.
Fiction hasn't been his only focus, having hiked over 8000 miles and spent countless nights camping and experiencing survival conditions. Almost 2200 of those miles came in the form of a continuous trip in 2006. That year he thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail for six months. It's a continuous footpath spanning from Georgia to Maine. The hike was completed under the trail name of Sir Lancelot the Brave. A great deal of perspective on life came from the hike and served as the major inspiration for Hike Not Alone (currently unpublished). It was also here that the first spark of Meddle Not (WIP) was born.
On returning from the Appalachian Trail, D. X. Logan began studying the design of roleplaying games. He created several for free release. This eventually led to the release of The Cursed under Boundless Allegory Designs (later rebranded as Boundless Allegory Press). It was offered for free release as a playtest version as well. The beta test version of the game was released in 2011. The basic mechanics of another, much larger game has been constructed, but is in development. His focus shifted to other aspects of his writing career. This includes a major RPG project, titled Myriad, and a the early work for what would become The Platinum Chain.
On March 17th of 2008 he was married, and has since had two children. 2013 marked the year he began writing full time after years of smaller works. This included shifting some of his income to source from ghost writing. In that period he wrote Nighteyes, a collection of 15 flash fiction stories that are worked into a larger serialized story, and Dreams of Dragonflies, that placed as a finalist in the Game Chef competition for 2015.
The Platinum Chain is scheduled for publication, as is the Wild Places e-book developed as a newsletter exclusive. Full releases of The Cursed and Dreams of Dragonflies are being developed, though these are side projects. The current WIP is being written under the working title of Meddle Not.
